Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa is first in the nation to include donor designation on tribal IDs
In June 2022, the Tribal Council of Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa became the first in the nation to be able to add donor registration on their tribal ID. The resolution was passed following the advocacy of Joan Azure, who started “The Greyson Initiative” in honor of her grandson who needed a heart transplant. Joan combined this personal experience with her background in the medical field, having worked at Quentin Burdick Memorial Healthcare where she ensured procedures were followed for potential organ donations.
